Thing is, it'll probably get 'released' earlier than there if you know where to look. ;) It's a popular movie, after all.

I wager not. Spiderman 3 was complete sequel with new stuff, while PotC 3 is pretty much the second part of PotC 2. Unless you didn't like PotC2 anyways ;)

This wouldn't count, it would be considered released on Thursday and would screw up sales (and records) for first day release (Friday) and the 3 day weekend.

Spiderman 3 drew $10 million during its midnight release, that's $10 mil that counted towards its $59 million opening day (in the U.S) If PotC3 does the same (or better, considering the supposed 8pm release), that's $10+million that wouldn't be counted towards its true Friday opening and weekend opening records (a new record such as "within 24 hours" would have to be created or some BS). This is just silly.

Call up your local theater and ask what the earliest showing is? I mean, you'll need tickets before you can go, so surely they know.

or go to http://www.movietickets.com

type in your zip code for closest theaters and click on one (the bigger the theater the better), then change the date to Thu, May 24th, 2007. My theaters are showing presale slots for 8:00pm and Midnight (12:01am, which is technically Friday, but still "Thursday night")

It also looks like Shrek 3 is doing something similar, I'm seeing presale tickets for 10pm on Thursday (the 17th)...although this might be more excusable (can't think of a better way to describe it) considering Shrek has always been a movie that is going to have a much larger fan base amongst children. I guess I chose 'excusable' as I don't see a slot for a showing afterwards like I do with Pirates.

Doubt it. There hasn't been a prerelease scr for any popular movie in years. The last one I remember was Matrix III.

I haven't seen the second one yet. I'll have to watch it before I see number 3. Then I will walk around a talk like a pirate all day. YARRRR!!

They were filmed at the same time, and this one isn't really a sequel - it's a continuation of PotC 2.

not likely...spidey sold out every single show it had at almost every theatre opening week end. I don't think Pirates will do the same thing.

It will give it a run for its money if they can get enough screen space. The long runtime (in excess of 3 hours including trailers) is problematic since fewer shows can be run per day.
