Wow, you are so going to hate this game. I'll be interested to see your comments.

lol. why is that?
from what i've seen of videos so far, i'm not impressed btu i thought i'd give it a try.
but if i can't even play the damn thing because of some stupid update bug or something...well...probably no big loss.

it's already got 2 strikes against it

1 - won't even finish updating.
2 - published by sony. didn't know this before i installed it.

i'm getting some kind of file not matched error apparently. well if it doesn't match, download the correct one?? isn't that what most mmorpgs do?

I have not tried the open beta, but I was in on one of the stress tests and there were just so many things wrong with the game. Starting with the graphics, plus technical issues, plus just overall weak mechanics.

Maybe that is all fixed, but I don't have time to find out right now, so I'll just wait and see what others here say before giving it another shot.

screw it. it won't update, i deleted the offending file, and tried to let it redownload it but it still said it wasn't matched.

i uninstalled it.

Trust me, you are better off. If they can't even get the download/installation/updating right, well then I can't imagine anything else has been improved very much.

I watched my friend's little brother play this game.... it's absolutely terrible. They pretty much spent about 0 minutes optimizing this game. The graphics look pretty bad and the game runs horrible. By the time you get on the ocean, you can move for about 2 minutes until the wind changes in a random direction and you get stuck in the same place for maybe 30 minutes. You are definitely NOT missing out on this game.

The game is not that good, but the sea is the best part of the game. The sea battles actually take a decent amount of strategy - from which direction do you approach the enemy? What ammo to use? Reduce the crew with grape shot? Sails with bar shot? Hull with round shot? It's not a point-and-click kind of game.

You'll never get stuck when sailing - whatever your friend's little brother was doing, he's an idiot. Don't try to sail into the wind next time.

The avatar combat (ie, swordplay) sucks something fierce.

The graphics are actually quite good and I noticed no lag when I played (quad core, 8800GTX, 4GB RAM). I know others with far less powerful systems who experienced similar response times, so it's not that my machine is uber. The requirements are expected to be quite reasonable.

I was in closed beta - lost interest and probably won't be playing it when it goes live, though.

Seems like more people are starting to get into the game. Servers are filling up. Only another couple of weeks before launch. The ship fighting is a lot of fun.

The update takes forever, it kept resetting and restarting, leave the download" going over night.

Anyways, I hated the game, better than Pirates of the Carribean 1 (AKA: Sea Dogs 2), which basically was the exact same thing except this is MMO. Now if it had the CryEngine2 engine, and some audio dialog and more interesting battle structure, I would reconsider.

I have to agree, this game sucks royally. Its going to be nothing but developers constantly patching the latest PvP exploit. A friend of mine was so sold on this game (he likes crafting games a lot) but that ended when a guild started following him and was flipping ports to PvP him.

See, if you know what your doing you can flip an area PvP in seconds and catch people unawares. I hope they fixed it because it was the tactic of choice in late December. Before that they had to patch challenging someone then having all your friends leave port and join....

Graphic glitches out the wahzoo... and honestly Sid Meirer did it many times better.
