Pirated Windows XP Pro activation for home use

Not sure if this is the best forum to post this. But I installed a XP pro with pirated CD key off the net for someone's kid at work. I know this isn't legal, and explained to the person, but has anyone ever gotten in trouble with Microsoft for this?

Yes lots of people here do it.

No it's not welcome to discuss it. I am sure that Anandtech would love to avoid a legal intaglements.

No you've shouldn't of done it. But probably nothing will happen. I haven't heard of MS prosicuting any individuals for pirating their software, however if it's done thru your work your company may be liable.

No I don't do it.

No I don't care if you do it.

You'll run into problems when trying to keep your OS secure. Going to microsoft's update webpage and trying to update your OS, it sends information about your computer and OS to MS and may refuse to install some updates if your using a genericly copied install key.

And if you can't keep it updated, replace it will Linux or a legal copy. What the world needs is NOT another trojen'd Windows install transmitting spam.
