They both suck about equally. Speakers are cheap in general.. just find some infinity's or alpines.

suck worse than stock?
im WAAAY past the age where i give a damn about having a killer car stereo.
i have a sony mp3 head unit, just looking to pair it with four decent sounding speakers.

In any thread where you ask for a comparison that includes a Sony product you'll get 9348 retards who pick the opposing item because of their experience with a whole one or two of their products, which generally aren't even in the category you're refering to.

I find that Sony generally does well (not excellent) in most of the audio field. I won't say they're better than Pioneer, because I don't have much experience with them except for a very old component system. I can tell you're not going for an elite-tastic setup to extend your ePenis, so I think either choice would probably be suitable. Seeing as your receiver is a Sony, then I'll have to finally suggest Sony. Of course speakers are generally universal, but I like to know that I have most if not all of the same products from the same manufacturer in a setup.

You can get a good deal on MB Quart's if you shop around. Probably the mest midrange speakers money can buy.

Used to work in a car stereo shop several years back and at that time Sony really sucked in car audio. The sound using the pioneer head units was so much better.
It could be different now but I wouldnt buy any Sony car stereo's based on my experience.

Quoted for truth.

I have the 220W Sony 3way 6.5" in one car and Pioneers in another. The Sony's sound better (richer) but the Pioneers will get louder without distortion.

Edit: Using an Alpine head unit in both.

a big NO on the sony explodes aka xplod....

pioneer is up in the air they have like 100 different models, mass produced wal-mart stuff or decent best buy/circuit city stuff and then their premier line.

I myself even on a budget wouldnt go no less than infinity references IMHO. Then again most everything these guys are suggesting would need an amp to get decent sound out of them (mainly low end)

believe it or not Kenwood came out with a new line of 2-way coaxials that sound pretty dam good with either a stock or aftermarket HU (up along the lines of infinity references). You just have to hear them to believe me. They were in a local audio shop around here but they "may" have them at a best buy or circuit city. They will be about your best price/SQ combo.

IMHO if i were to get MB quartz I would indulge and get their components (which is what they are most known for). Their full ranges tended to lack in the lower frequency range.

RTM

Lets say if I was going to spend $100-150 to replace the 4 stock speakers because I wanted decent sounds and absoutely nothing else.
Knowing now, I would spend that $100-$150 getting an AMP to drive those stock speakers.

AMP+stock speakers= way better than NO AMP + new speakers.

Go to a CC or BB and listen to both speakers using the same HU that you own.
Get which ever one you think sound better.
They both are in the same "crap" department.

Oh and don't buy from CC or BB, pick the one you want to buy, find it on the net or Ebay for probably 1/2 the price.
