Pioneer Plasma TV - anyone want to go in with me?

I went to best buy today and was looking at the Pioneer Plasmas when I noticed a sign that said "buy a pioneer 1080p plasma and get this pioneer 720p plasma free".

Of course the price tag on the 1080p is $7500 and the 720p is $3500. I was thinking that if anyone wanted to buy the 720p then the cost of the 1080p would be reduced greatly.

The 720p model number is: PDP-5070HD

The 1080p model number is: PRO-FHD1

I do realize that best buy is marking up the tv several thousand dollars and that the TV (PRO-FHD1) can be found online for about $5200 but I would rather buy it in the store then have to deal with any problems when buying from an e-tailer. I also have a 12% off coupon and I am a reward zone member. I believe after tax the tv will cost me about $7100 - whatever I can sell the 5070 for.

Is anybody interested in getting this plasma and if so wanted to go with me on this great deal? Pioneer.com is also advertising the deal

I hope you know the PRO-FHD1 does NOT come with a ATSC or NTSC tuner.

It is just a monitor. Unless you get directv/dish or your cable company provides a box you'll just be plugging in dvd player or game system.

Or...*gasp!*...an external tuner!

You are correct. I dont know why I wrote that both had tuners. The Pro is a monitor while the 5070 is a tv that has the tuner, smart card, etc. The Pro would be for me anyways....so i wasnt trying to mislead anyone. I have cablevision here in ny and they provide me with a HD DVR which I can connect to the Pro via HDMI. 🙂

edit: with a price tag of $7500 you would think that they would atleast include a stand for it....I believe the stand is an extra $500. 🙁 cheapos

sure you weren't. Just saying so that you don't blow 7500 only find out there are no tuners.

I'd deal with you except you live in NY. I'm out in california.

What's funny is that you can pick up the 50" PRO-FHD1 for ~$4900 and the 5070 for ~$2800 now. ~$7700 total. < Better deal. 😉

Where can you find those tvs for that price? If you are going to say froogle or pricegrabber dont worry i already looked and none of the cheap prices are authorized online seller for pioneer. What that means is that Pioneer will not honor the warranty if purchased from them.

Like I said earlier I would prefer to purchase in a store then online incase I have a problem with the unit.

Would the person buying the 720p pay $3500 to you, or would you sell it under Best Buys price so both you and the 2nd person get a deal?

That's a good idea you have by the way

Sorry, I made a mistake, the Pioneer 5070 is $2699.99. 😉 And let me tell you, OneCall is AWESOME! Better than purchasing from a store. You don't go to them, they come to you. If you have a problem with your set, they repair it in your home. No loading the truck up, and taking it back to the store for repairs. 😉

Or you can pick it up here for $2490.00. Although, I really don't recommend TVAuthority, even though they are authorized Pioneer dealers. But some people swear by them (avsforum members).

I'd go for OneCall even though they are a little more expensive. Their customer service is top notch and second to none.

Pricemad has the Pioneer Pro-FHD1 for $4929.00, but I haven't had any experience dealing with them directly. They do have an excellent reseller rating though.

And if you are wondering why stores are offering these awesome deals on Pioneer plasmas, THIS is probably why. Get ready for the summer, because Pioneer is coming out with both guns a blazin'. From the people present at CES 2007 that saw Pioneer's new plasma, this thing is simply amazing. Pioneer went back to the drawing board, reinvented the plasma and delivered a masterpiece.
