The HH Gregg in my area (maybe all stores?) is dumping their Pioneer products, and I'm thinking of assembling a home theater system on the cheap. My TV isn't great, so I don't need anything super fancy. The only one that I remember the model number for is the center channel, SPC22, which has good reviews on Amazon, but I wanted to know what the fine people of AnandTech have to say about it.

If you can also recommend a reasonably priced receiver ($250-ish) with at least 4 HDMI inputs on it.

The Andrew Jones speaker collection is good value for the price. The Yamaha RX-V377 and the Denon AVR-E300 are the best your going to get for $250 unless you want to wait for a refurb / closeout sale on a higher tier receiver.

I personally am not a fan of Pioneer receivers. The biggest improvement in this field in a decade is Audyssey Auto Setup and the Pioneers (and Yamaha's) often don't have that.

Out of the receivers I have, I by far love my Denon the most. For the price I would get this receiver which comes with a basic version of Audyssey:

So the consensus thus far seems to be that Pioneer are still a reliable choice, and Denon is the way to go with the receiver. Sounds good.

Well, I went ahead and picked them up last weekend. Bought the center channel and 2 bookshelf speakers. $55+tax out the door. They didn't have them in stock anymore, so they just pulled the displays off the shelf for me. A little ding in the center channel, but it was $15 (down from $100 retail!), so.... I'll deal.

Now I just need a sub, and a receiver. It's a smaller room, and I think I'll be fine with a 3.1 system. I did just get a Gallo TR1 sub from my sister, but I have it on my computer... I suppose I could put it over on my home theater...

I have a Pioneer 5.1 receiver which isn't too bad. Suits my purposes, though I'm just using bookshelf speakers and a small sub. I will say their audio fidelity isn't as good as it was in the past.
