Pioneer DVR-108

I was just about to lock myself into buying an LG 4120B when I noticed that pioneer have released their DVR-108 which is capable of 16x DVD+-R and 4X DL burning. I think I'm convinced this is a better option, and am curious if anyone has got one yet and can post their experiences with it?

I'm also looking on buying the LG, but when did Pioneer relased there new drive. Does any store have it in there stock?

I've been looking for the DVR-108 in Canada, and can't seem to find it... so i might be stuck with the LG4120B... which is pretty damn good as well, so i doubt i'll have any buyer's regret over it.

soory the link wont work go to the computer section of new egg and click shop by category click dvd burners and do a search for pioneer dvdr/cd combo drive

There's one place here in Toronto (Infonec Computers) that will be selling the 108 for $155. I think I'll hold off buying the LG.

I've found a couple of stores in Australia that sell them - varying prices though. However, should be a good buy whatever the price 😀

Well, since this is theoretically the limit for Single Layer DVD Media, I would say purchasing this does give the user the same end of the line capability that owning a 52X CD-RW does. I just bought a 12X DVD+R drive and love it, but I don't mind the 7 minute burns, and the dual layer capability may only be 2.4X, but again, I don't mind waiting. The drive looks to be pretty solid, except for it's 32X CD-R rating, but other than that it looks like a good purchase.

EDIT: Found this while doing a web search, might be interesting if you can read Japanese, or at least don't mind putting it through Babel Fish.

yep, newegg's got 'em for 99 and you get a freebie and free shipping fedex ground shipping too (I think). I'm going for it.

nice! NCIX has it thx JavaMomma

specs for 108 say Win XP is the required system. Anyone know if Win 2K Pro will work then? I just bought the drive from Newegg, don't want to have to convert to XP and upgrade a bunch of programs if I don't have to.

EDIT: found out from some of the many helpful folks on this forum that that refers to the software that comes with the drive, not the drive itself...actually, I think I knew that, duh!
