Pioneer DVR-108 - need some thoughts

Ok so i have the DVR-108. Drive worked fine for about 4 months. Now when i put a blank DVD in the drive it makes some weird noises like its having trouble reading the disc then if i'm in dvd decrypter is says "incompatible medium installed" this of course comes up no matter what kind of blank dvd i put it. Yet if i put in a blank CD-R it reads it no problem and is ready to burn.

I've moved the drive to another pc and same thing happens

upgraded firmware from 1.18 to 1.19 and same issues.

anyone have any ideas or should i just look for a new drive?

thanks

Wierd. I have a DVR-109, and my dad has an older DVR-106, and both have worked flawlessly since we got them.

My DADs 106 is fairly load when in use. Otherwise, I got no idea what the noise is.

Maybe you have some dust on the lens inside the drive. You might need a drive cleaning kit or something... But I doubt the drive itself has failed, or else it shouldn't read CD's either. Can it still read pre-recorded DVDs?

exchange it, vendors usually give you a 1-year warranty on these. i've been using pioneer drives since the dvr-103 and i did have some die on me but they just got worn out (24/7 cycle in duplicators)

ps if you have no warranty you can take it apart and see maybe it's a mechanical issue that can be easily fixed.. sometimes you wont beleive (took out a clear disc protector from one of my drives once, TY meda has really thin ones on the bottom of the stack)

i had a dvr-106, for some reason it wouldnt read any dvd-/+r i burnt with it like 6 months after i got it, although it could read RW disc and cdrs without a problem and it still burnt everything... weird

thanks for the replies guys..

i find it weird that it can read and burn a cd but not a dvd..

i havent tried to see if it can read a retail dvd i only tried a bunch of blank ones and burnt ones.

if i bring it back to the store would they care or check to see that i upgraded the firmware?

99% of the people there wouldn't even know what firmware was 😉 You'll be ok.
