I bought Pioneer DVR-108 last week, haven't successfully burned one single DVD+R so far. It works fine with DVD-R, but it doesn't work with my CD-RW disks either.

When using DVD+R disks, Nero gives the following error msg:

Anybody has seen this problem before? Maybe I should go for NEC rather than Pioneer next time. My NEC 2500A works just fine.

I havn't tried +'s on mine yet, but -'s have worked great for me burnt some 8X verbatim disc's at 12x just fine. You might want to see what firmware your burner came with. You can see it on the POST screen right next to the name. I got mine for X mas and it only came with verision 1.13. They already have all the way up through 1.18. Maybe the +'s your using aren't compatible with the eary firmware and is in the new ones? I don't know but you can find the updated firmware on pioneer's site.

Mine came with FW 1.14. Well the problem is, it's supposed to work on both DVD-R and DVD+R even when it was released. I have heard people having problem to install FW 1.18 and there is no way to restore back to 1.14 once upgraded. sigh...I have wasted 4 DVD+R disks on it. I have tried using different IDE slots, enable DMA, but nothing works. Btw, is there any easier way to test a DVD writer without wasting DVD media on it? :)

I bought it from newegg.com, and it's not listed on newegg.com any more. I guess I don't even have a chance to get a change, not to mention returning it.

relax, theres nothing wrong with the Pioneer 108. It'll burn any DVD+-R with any firmware.

the pioneer is a UDMA 4 device - up to 66mb/sec
clearly you have a system prob - it says right in your readout that DMA is off
you need an 80 conductor cable and you need DMA on.
Also, Nero auto updates the ASPI layer when installing - IF YOU LET IT - and you should.

and there is no problem in installing fw 1.18 IF you use the corect version - because there is a retail A0X108AL and an OEM DVD-108R, and they are diffferent so you better get the right one.

Yes, I have read something about enabling DMA, but how to do that. I have one DVD burner and one CD-RW writer. They are both in IDE slot 1, with the DVD writer being the primary. And two harddrives are in IDE slot 2. I have tried to switch the them also. ultra DMA 4 ultra 66 is set by BIOS.

Did I miss anything here? How to choose that cable? I am using the cable attached with the motherboard. Thanks.

I see. I have the OEM version. Maybe I should stay with FW 1.14 for a while.

Maybe try some different media? I have the 108 and tried some Memorex 8X +R, and everything burned fine but couldnt get DVD players to play the discs. The media worked fine in my Toshiba and Nec 8X drives. Tried Fuji and have had no problems.
