Pioneer DVR-104 DVD burner problem in Windows XP?

I just upgraded the firmware in this drive to v. 1.41, and now Explorer hangs when trying to access the drive disc's contents in Windows XP. Also when I put a disc in it, almost all applications load at crawling speed including Internet Explorer 6, but as soon as I hit the eject button to take the disc out, IE6 immediately comes up. A disc in this drive can be read in DOS. I encountered a problem exactly like this a couple of months ago when I had firmware v. 1.40, but it just magically went away after another system startup. I have tried defragmenting, changing it to the primary IDE controller as the slave with a 16X DVD-ROM as the master. (I have SATA hard drives so all onboard IDE slots are free for CD/DVD drives) and moving LiteOn CD-RW drive to the Secondary master IDE. What could be the problem?

Help greatly appreciated.

Was it in fact a Pioneer drive in the first place or like a Cendyne drive??? Mine is Cendyne but has always read as Pioneer Drive in the winxp control panel....I have had no issues with v 1.40 firmware but on the other hand I usually quite leary of updatting the firmware on drives unless there is a major problem.

Have you tried disconnecting it altogether and botting it up a couple of times then reinstalling it??? Have you tried going into the bios and have it redetect it or change it to auto or something other then auto???
