Pioneer DVDR A04 DVD writer with Firewire enclosure

Hi all,

first post here. I am interested in buying the Pioneer A04 DVD writer but since I own a few PCs and a Mac, I was wondering if that drive would work in a Firewire enclosure which you can find in several shops on the net ? And would it work on Mac and PC ?

Has anyone tried that ?

I don't own one, but several of the Firewire Pioneers around the net are simply that drive in a standard Firewire enclosure.

I'm still debating if I should buy that drive or else the Panasonic DVD-RAM/R. Apple claims that at least OS 9 supports "DOS" under DVD-RAM. ie. It would be cool to run FAT32 DVD-RAM discs on a Mac, even if it meant dropping down to OS 9, since DVD-RAM is so much more robust for data storage than DVD-R(R). However, so far I have found absolutely nobody who has done this on a Mac.

I can confirm however that FAT32 firewire hard drives work on OS 9, but are buggy in OS X.

I'd check to make sure yer DVD burning software supports Firewire burners. For example, the current build of iDVD does *not* support burning over Firewire, and DVD Studio Pro only has a few supported Firewire burners.
