Pioneer DVD-ROMs

Are there any real differences between the slot loading and tray loading versions of pioneer's 16x DVD-ROM's? I have heard that the slot is noiser? Is this true?

the tray version doesn't have digital cd-audio out, but I'm not sure if this is still true for the 106/116 version. It was the case with the 105/115 versions...

I don't know about noise and all that, but I have the 16x slot load version and have no regrets. It just seems to me to be much more convenient and "slick-er" to have the slot load as opposed to the clumsy tray loader.

Some have noted that the slot loader cannot accept the smaller CDROMS, but to date I have not yet come into contact with a small CDROM, so it doesn't affect me as I am sure others as well. Go for the slot load, you will surely have no regrets!

I haven't noticed much difference. I have the tray 16x and my roommate has the slot 10x. Maybe it is the noise that our computers put out.

The load mechanism is very quiet, quieter than my LiteOn burner. But when it comes to ripping data or playing a dvd it is very loud!

Does anyone know why did they lower the data buffer to 256kb from 512kb in the DVD-106 model? Is the data buffer really not that important?

no clue but I would rather have a 106s than 105s because I feel newer is better. lol. I have the 105s and It's very nice, I dont notice it over my fans and the klipsch promedia speakers.
