Pioneer DVD really warms my disks up!

I've been happily using acer 50x cdroms for quite a while and just got a pioneer 16x tray DVD and doing disk swaps noticed they're quite warm.
Its a little noisier on the spin as well but what causes the heat? Is it the laser?

my 48x creative cdrom really heats them up too (especially in games like diablo2). i guess it just depends how the drive was made (maybe its the space within the unit, ones with less space may heat up more from the speed of the disk spinning -*shrug* dunno).

hasn't caused any damage though, so its all good 🙂

Mine doesn't get too hot but I have noticed that whirr... mabye they do that so you feel like you're going fast; lol😉

It won't hurt your cdroms in any way, because it doesn't get hot enough. I've had the Pioneer 10x DVD for two years now, and my discs get warm too. CDROM's can withstand a lot of heat. Take for instance leaving your cd's in a car, while it's 90F+ outside. The interior of the car can get up to 200+. I've never had problems with my cd's going bad because of heat.

its a whole different ball game when you put them in a microwave though. yes, i know someone who did this 😀

is that where you set the CD in the microwave with a glass of water and start the microwave? Did that ruin the microwave?

It makes a cool lighting storm thing. We did it at work with several redunant CDs and a microwave that was about to be replaced. It didn't seem to harm the microwave any... I sure wouldn't want to eat anything out of it after this had been done though.. :-(
