Pioneer DVD 116/106 Questions....

Searched but couldn't find the answers to these (did find answers to most of my questions tho, good thing I searched 🙂 I am debating whether to go with an Aopen 52x CD-ROM for $35 or this Pioneer 16x DVD for $70. How is it working for everyone that has it? Does it read all your CDs? It can do on-the-fly to a 12x burner correct? Would it work well as a main CD-ROM also? Finally, are the specs on the 106 and 116 exactly the same, with the only difference being the slot loading feature? Thanks.

Yes it's a great DVD, works great as a Cd-rom, they improved the minor problems that the 115/105 had. I'd get a DVD drive since they're so cheap now. Also, if it's the same as the previous model (115/105), the only difference is that the slot version has a 2-pin digital output for audio CD's, while the tray version doesn't, but it's really not a big deal.

DO NOT GET THE AOPEN!!!!! I have that very drive in my system right now and i cant wait to get rid of it. SERIOUSLY. This is a terrible drive. So what if the DAE is good? It's loud, slow, and just a paint to use, and it has problems reading mayn of the CD's ive burned.

Get the DVD player, that's im planning to do.

I would give it a great recommendation.....never had any problems with one of those in any of the systems I have built...

I agree with the cost of dvd-roms why buy a cd-rom at all...get a device that can do both for same price. PLus the pioneer is a fairly good dae ripper as well and since cd-rws are at 16x right now you don't need a helluva alot more than that...
