Hi...i was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a firmware update to get this unit to record at 8x for single layer recording and where to get it? I did a web search and couldn't find anything. I DID find some news that Pioneer had used an A06 to do dual layer recording recently! thanks, robert

I updated the firmware on my A05 and it never worked well again. It owkred from time to time but then eventuall it just stopped working period. This was not the first time I updated firmware on a CD-R/DVD-R either.

I did some searching last night, and saw absolutely nothing about 8x single layer. I found that dual layer rumor, and it looks like that might just be a firmware upgrade, but if there really is 8x firmware out there or coming, it's awfully hush-hush.
With the prices that they're selling these drives for nowadays(compared to when we used to pay $500 for 2X CD-R drives), it's almost futile to wait for 8x firmware for an older drive when the 8x-16x and beyond drives will be out sooner than later for cheap.

It's the smart way. And sometimes a lot cheaper. I like cheaper. Besides, I always use the old stuff for builds for family that don't need the latest and greatest in CD-RW's or hard disks, or whatever.
