Can someone help me figure out a problem with system hangups when trying to author DVD-Rs. I run an AMD 1.2 Ghz system, with 80 GB of hard drive space, 512 MB PC-133 RAM, Pioneeer A05 DVD-R/RW recorder, Liteon CD-R/RW recorder, Liteon DVD player and Windows XP OS. The problem I run into is when I try to burn a dvd using Sonic's MyDVD 4.0, the program would work for awhile, but after several hours (6 hours), the system locks up. The progress bar stays at one location and looks like the program's running. There are no errors or anything.

I noticed the problem exists when burning large files. When I tried copying a smaller file using Pinnacle's IWrite, never had a problem. I tried backing up 2GB of info all at the same time, and everything hung up (this was using Pinnacle's IWrite).

I also tried doing an Alt-Ctrl-Del to see if the program is not responding, but then it says, its running. So I don't have a clue what's wrong with my setup.

The Liteon CD-R/RW recorder is configured as the master drive in IDE-0, the DVD player is the slave in IDE-0, and the Pioneer DVD recorder is in IDE-1 configured as the slave. I appreciate any suggestions or solutions anyone can provide.

Have you updated the chipset drivers? It is something I thought of when I read your post, but I don't know very much about DVD authoring. You also might want to check and see if there are any patches for your system/software.
