I kept hearing what a good drive this was so I suggested it to a friend. He's now running it w/ win98, ATI DVD (radeon 64 vivo) and when he plays DVD's.. it kind of pauses and then plays.. like.. interupted, as if it were caching or something.. what could be causing this?

I just told him.. waiting to see now if it will help. He was downloading new drivers off the web for it, I told him that it wouldn't be driver related because I'm pretty sure that windows supports DVD drives natively anyway. I hope it works out for him, I built him that system and I told him that the drive was good.

Nope.. enabling DMA didn't fix it. The drive 'works', I mean, it plays dvds, so I don't think it's a hardware problem either.

I had the same drive . . . and paired with a Radeon 46 DDR. The Ati DVD player is totally suck! I could not run a DVD movie without some sort of problem.

I downloaded and installed WinDVD 3.0 . . . end of problem . . . perfect movies. Go figure!
