Pioneer 108BK Burning Issues

I've been burning a ton of discs lately (over 400 at this time) and have stumbled upon something that I was hoping someone could help with. I've made a "master set" of Ritek G05's that is 75 or so discs, all play just fine in my burner, my LiteOn Combo CDR/DVDRom drive, and my set top player (even my PS2), however, when I try to do a disc to disc copy, I get complete coasters. I've tried to make an image on the HD and sometimes that corrects the problems, but sometimes it dies on that step as well. Looking at the disc in the light, I can see small "lines" going out from the center in what looks like the burned areas. I've never experienced these problems before with my CDR drive(s) and was wondering if it's the media, the burner, or just simple user error (hey, we all make mistakes.. right?.. guys? ... a little help here... :p).

Has anyone else experienced this? Again, the DVDs play just fine, but won't copy or even image to my HD to make a copy. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

If no one has experienced this issue, I guess it's just this burner. If anyone has had this problem, please post here, it's rather wierd..

A photo or scan of the disk in question would be very useful- I'm not decided between the media and the burner at this stage :)

Here's a link to the scan.. the best image that came up is the dark line in the center of the disc, towards the bottom of the circle.

Linkage for scan

Hope this helps...

How are you trying to make the copy? Which app?

Try using DVD Decrypter in ISO/Read mode. Then burn the image back using whatever...

I use the latest version of Nero, using both Disc Copy and Disc Image (to HD, then to DVD-R).

As for the media, I've always heard that Ritek is "decent" media. Sure it's not TY, but then again, not much out there is. Is it normal for this many discs to go bad? We're talking 10-15 so far out of 350-400. Will a better media yield better results?

Thanks for the input so far.. any more ideas?

Does DVD Decrypter allow me to make multiple copies? The thing I need Nero for is that it does disc-to-disc coping, so I can make multiple copies of a set number of discs for my clients. Doesn't DVD decrypter need to rip to HD, then burn, taking hours for the process? Or am I mistaken?

DVD Decrypter can make the image about as fast as your burner will allow it. All you do is make a disc image, then burn that image as many times as you want. You can use Nero to burn after if you want, but I believe DVD Decrypter's burn feature lets you specify the number of copies you can burn as well. It doesn't take hours. A 9GB disc takes about 7 minutes to rip for me, then I burn back at 8x, so thats another 8 minutes per 4.5Gbs.

Yeah, same here. Either some sort of stress mark on the polycarbonate substrate, or perhaps some abrasive marks from a disc tray, perhaps? Definately not normal.

Don't use Nero to backup DVDs, it's buggy at best. Do what one of the above posters suggested and use DVD Decryptor.
