Pioneer 106s Slot-loader -- Brand new, but not working

Fastball

I just installed it and installed PowerDVD so I could play movies. I have put several DVD's in it and it won't read them. When I put a CD-R in it, it acts very weird. It takes a very long time to read the disc and acts like it is searching for files. What could be the problem? Should DMA be on or off?

To isolate the problem, try putting the drive by itself on the same channel that the burner was on (but take the burner off) and try it on both slave/master. See if that works for you, and if so, it may be the way it's interacting with the burner. I know that my Pioneer 10x DVD-ROM acts a little weird when there's something else on the same bus.

If you are using the 80-wire ATA-66/100 cable, it is Cable Select capable. You can then set all your devices on that cable to CS and the cable position will automatically decide Master or Slave by its position. Saves a lot of jumper moving. (And mistakes due to forgetting to move them.) 🙂
