Pioneer 106s plays music but not cdroms; HELP!

please help this pathetic NEWBIE

My pioneer 106s will play music CD's but will not read data cdroms. Already tried upgrading firmware with no luck. Drive works fine on 2000 but not with XP pro. Any suggestions!?!?!?!😕

I don't know the details, but I've read some people complain about issues with DVD drives and Windows XP. If it's working fine in Win2K but not in XP, then I'm guessing it's probably an XP issue. If it was a fault on the drive it wouldn't work fine in Win2K.

Agree with Ryukumu. Since the drive works OK in W2K, then there is nothing wrong with the drive. Sounds like an XP driver problem. Music CDs play through a different route than do data CDs. Music does not go through the CPU and the 'system' but directly from the drive to your sound card.

Have you checked Device Manager in XP to see if there are any noted anomalies?

I second in that data CD and music CDs are read differently. One time my Win98 system would reboot whenever you tried reading a data CD but it would play audio CDs without so much as a temporary hang.

I checked everything with no luck... However, I did a system restore from a time when the drive was working and now it's fine. Hopefully it stays that way.

Thanks for the help guys!
