I have been told by several people that when buying a cd-rom/dvd drive, to allways buy a retail box to assure that you are getting a new drive and to get a better warranty. I have been told of people that have bought "oem white box" drives that had refurbished drives in the box, not new. I want to purchase a Pioneer 105s and it is not available in a retail version (I called Pioneer to confirm). Does anyone have a opinion on buying this drive in a oem box? I have seen it on pricewatch at a cheap price but, from company's I have never heard of. Any advise on a place to purchase that is reputable so I wouldn't have to worry about what is in the box?

it is available in retail version (A105S).
I bought Pioneer 16x slot in retail version, came with
box, software, screws and manual.

I bought it from hypermicro, I think they don't sell it
anymore though.

When I went to Pioneer's web site I found the A05S, but when I called Pioneer they told me they never released it as a retail version!! But if you got one maybe there are others out there to be bought. I tried the website you found yours at, and you are right, they don't have it anymore. :( Anyone else found a place that has the A05S (105S retail version)???? Or a place to buy the OEM version that you wouldn't worry about what you are getting????
