PIO/DMA Problem with Plextor 16/10/40A

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my box to a 1.2Ghz Athlon running on an Asus A7M266 w/ 256 MB of Crucial PC2100. I installed a Plextor 16/10/40A as the only drive (set as master) on the secondary IDE controller. The problem is that the BIOS will not set the drive to DMA-2 mode. If set to auto-detect, it sets PIO mode to 4 and disables DMA. In Win2k, if I check the IDE controller settings, it is set to "DMA if available", but the current mode is always listed as PIO. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Will

that may be a bios issue...have you flashed to the latest version? if not try that...

other than that, i dunno...if manually setting the udma and pio the way you want it dowsn't work, you may be stuck with what autodetect gives you :frown:

After changing the IDE controller settings to "DMA if available", did you restart your computer? I have the 1210A and after restarting, it shows the current mode as DMA.

Hey,
I think there's a "jumper hack"
for this drive that forces your computer to
see it in "DMA mode".

that is right..there is a jumper hack..

just jumper the two pins on the far LEFT side (if you are holding the back of the plextor drive and facing you)..
