I bought a MSI K7 Pro and well when I plugin a floppy drive it detects it there but it won't read any floppies!!! The floppy drive light goes on and it the head moves to read the floppy but then it doesn't read anything.

I know the floppy drive is fine because I tried it on another comp, the wire that is connecting the floppy drive to the mobo is fine too... what do you guys think it could be?!?!

as far as I know there are only 3 possibilities.. bad cable, bad drive, bad mobo floppy connector..

you only have one possibility left..

there is a SLIGHT chance that maybe that cable isn't working well on that particular mobo, maybe it was a fluke when it was tested on another system and it worked right luckily..

u could try another cable anyways if you can get one easily .. that's just me.. I always try other pieces just incase even if it's verified to work in another machine.. I have them lying around though, if you don't that may be a different story. but to me all is not lost yet.. try a diff. cable anyways and a diff. drive if you CAN. maybe even some other disks. then go to the mobo, possible BIOS setting? doubtful, but I am not sure what that BIOS is like...

anyways good luck dude.

I tried a brand new cable too and that didnt help. :( Then I tried the cable from the one where the floppy drive isn't working on this comp and the drive still worked on this comp.

I'd try calling or getting support from the manufacturer then... on one last note. maybe just try looking thru the manual to see if there may be a reason for it.. sounds like some sort of mobo problem.

again, good luck!

3 pins seem to be missing from the motherboard in the floppy port. Umm is that normal?

Sorry to say, but it sounds like it may be your mobo. If you have tried two different cables and the floppy works with both cables on another PC, then I believe it can only be the mobo. I don't know if it is normal to have those three pins missing, I've never looked that closely before. I would suggest rying another floppy if available, but I doubt it will make a difference. Floppy drives were pretty standardized about eight or nine years ago, so ther is no chance of incompatability on a large scale, but maybe (and I meen MAYBE) your floopy is just tempermental. Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Hope things look up for you.
As Always,

I've seen 1 missing before but never more than that. I think your mobo connector is hosed.
