Pinout on p180 front audio connector

I am starting my first build, using a P180 case. My mobo (p5B deluxe) has a connector for the front audio ports of the case, and it needs to be configured for either HD audio or AC97 audio. The case's manual does not say which one the p180 has, and the manual's description of the pinout does not seem to fit either of the two (too many pins for AC97, too few for HD). I am a complete n00b so I am not sure if there is a simple way to tell which is which.

So, what type of audio connector does the p180 have on the front? Can the 10 pin audio connector from the case be plugged directly into the 10 pin connector on the MoBo?

Thanks for any help!

The case manual (pg. 4) or website should have description and definitions of the case connectors and the mobo manual should have the same for the mobo - just match up pin description for pin description. In the case of the 180 it uses 7 wires in a 10-pin shell. If the contacts in the shell don't line up with the correct mobo connector pins you can move them around in the shell to get them right. Look around on the www.frontx.com web site for instructions on moving contacts.

Set your mobo to AC'97 pinout in the BIOS. Then rearrange the Antec's contacts to match the AC97 pinout diagram in your manual. You'll only be using 5 of the seven available wires to the front panel. The pin descriptions and labels match closely enough that you should be able to get those 5 correct.

Zepper/AsianRice,

Thanks for the info. The problem was that the pinout shown in the case manual does not correspond to either of the two possible pinouts described on the MoBo manual (for either HD or AC97) so I was not sure what was going on. Looking at the Intel info provided by AsianRice (thanks!) it seems that the case pinout is AC97. Knowing this I went back and checked the pinout shown for AC97 audio on the Mobo, and realized why the apparent mismatch: while the case has pins for the left and right front channels as well as left and right return channels (labeled as rear speakers on the manual), the Mobo only has L and R front channels, which is why it appeared that the two pinouts did not match: the Mobo has two pins less than the case. I guess I can just plug the 10 pin connector into the Mobo and configure the Mobo for AC97, and the rear channels will simply go unused.

I guess in hindsight it was more of a n00b question than I realized!

Thanks for your help!

You DON"T use the 10 pin connector, you use 5 of the separate wires. Numbering of two row header connectors should have the odd number pins on one side and the even numbered pins on the other. I haven't seen the 10 pin case connector but the numbering in the case manual won't allow that connector to work unless you rearrange the pins.
