Pinnacle Studio screwed up the computer

Hi,
I bought a Pinnacle Studio 9 AV/DV
I installed the softwares. restarted the pc, then shut down and installed the card according to the instructions. started the computer back up i see an error message 'Creative synth could not start MIDI play back. MIDI has been disabled'. I hit OK and all i get is a blank screen. No desktop

I can boot into Safe mode. I uninstalled the sound card and removed it. restarted the computer. No error message about the MIDI ofcourse, but still blank screen. I cant get to desktop.

I went to safe mode again. unistalled all pinnacle software. shut down, removed the studio card. restarted the computer. I still get blanck screen after windows start screen.

Here is my computer setup

Abit KT7 mobo
1.3 GB Thunderbird CPU, 1GB memory, Voodo 3 video card, Creative SB live sound card.
Windows ME, Directx 9.0b

Should i upgrade my video card. should i upgrade to DirectX 9? please help.

I cant understand why i get the black screen even after uninstalling everything I installed. there is no program running in the back groound. should i have ran hollywood FX registry cleaner?
