Studio 9 is much easier to learn and cost alot less. You an actually pick it up for $59. Premeire is much more powerful, but just like Photoshop, you just dont install it and *boom* know how to use it. Its has a steep learning curve, so beware. But like I said, its much more poerful, has more options, and cost alot more.

Premiere is more robust and allows much more controls of your video and audio, and with something like After Effects, you can make some very professional videos. All this comes with a very steep learning curve though. I dont know anyone who can really use Premier well that didnt learn it in a video editing class in college or something. While I also know people who have premeire who dont use it for more then what they could do in a imovie or pinnacle studio.

Bottom line, IMO if you want to really learn about video editing, get premiere and take a class too. Otherwise if you want to play around with your DV camcorder then use pinnacle studio package.

I use Pinnacle Studio, and I've used it to make dozens of DVDs. It's a simple program, made for the casual consumer. Hence it's price, around $99. It's easy to capture video from your camcorder, edit your movie, add titles and music, create a menu, and burn a DVD.

I've used Premiere, mainly just playing around with it. Premiere is a professional solution. It can handle multiple video and audio tracks, advanced color correction and it can handle high-definition video. Premiere is a lot more complicated than a consumer video editor.

I'm eventually gonna step up to Premiere. I need the power of Premiere for some future projects.

Pinnacle Studio is great for home video stuff, but if you needed to make advanced video or documentarty filmmaking, Premiere is what you need.

For simple home use pinnacle is probably fine. If you want to make something semi-pro then premiere is better, if you want real pro stuff look at avid.

Pinnacle = $100 give or take
premiere = $600
avid = $6000 for avid pro, there are several levels so you can get into the middle hundreds if you are willing to take less features.

Which is better realy depends on what you want to do and how much time you want to spend.

Pinnacle Studio 9 is very easy to learn and produce semi-professional results with a bit of practice. Fry's had a great deal for Studio 9 bundled with Hollywood FX Plus for $49 after rebates a while back.

Adobe Premiere is for someone looking to make professional grade videos and has a lot of time on their hands to figure out how to use it and a lot of money to spend.
