Hi!

I jut re-assembled one of my old computer (HP Pavilion) using parts lying in my closet. Things seemed to go on smoothly until the windows installation completed. Now the screen has turned pinkish .. it seems to be lacking green color. I have checked my VGA cable and the pins are intact (there are three missing pins but that's how the model was .. and the monitor works perfectly with my ATI card in my other computer).

Can somebody point out what's going on?

Thanks!

That's what I thought .. but no!

I have changed a the monitor with my another one to test this thing .. The pinkish screen still persists on the monitor which works flawlessly om my other computer.

I also updated the coilor profile of my monitor using the compaq drivers ... but no use ...

One surprising thing that I observed was that the screen became normal for 20-30 seconds ... but then suddenly crapped ou again .. dunno what's going on..

I had a similar problem once. I took out the video card, dusted it off (compressed air works nicely) and put it back in. That fixed the problem for me.

Thanks .. tried everything!

By the way, there is no card as such ... it's onboard video .. I'm just baffled. Never spent so much time on this silly stuff. To add to my woes, the screen becomes okay once in an hour and mocks me .. then goes back to the same thing again!!

Could be a break in the cable that makes contact every now and then, but usually doesn't. You would have to take the monitor apart to diagnose that, and even then it's difficult to consistently reproduce the problem.
Or maybe the DAC on the video processor is bad.

I think I'll get a cheap video card from office max or some place ... Do you know the cheapest PCI card (XP compatible) which works for extremely basic applications like internet and word processing?

I'd suggest going to a PC shop, the one I work at has some ooold used PCI cards for $6 each.
S3 something or another, I don't remember.
