He's right.

I vote we now collectively make fun of Jellomancer as a corporate-retreat-style "teambuilding" exercise. :D

I found that amusing for some reason.

Me too..

I always wondered why a group that keeps crying "hate-crime" would be against protecting themselves with guns.. It's nice to see some are taking responsibility for their own protection.

At least you're not biased. So, if you're not tolerant of "homophobic 12 year-old troglodytes", doesn't that make *you* a bigot? :D

See above Fausto...

Okay....I'll admit it. I'm totally intolerant of homophobic 12 year-old troglodytes. I will seek counseling to mend my ways.

DBZ: Your post wasn't funny. It was just garishly stupid regardless of your personal views on homosexuals. If you are actually older than 12, you have my sympathy since your intellect and maturity obviously stalled out at that age while your body kept going. That must be a tough existence.....kinda like the movie "Big" but with a learning disbility thrown in for good measure.

actually, there is a limit where being to careful of what you can say is discrimination, if you have to think about it, you know you are one of them...

Equality means equal treatment, if you can't make fun of gays, then you can't make fun of anyone else... why not just bite the bullet and admit you overreacted thist time Fausto?
I fail to see where I've overreacted. I gave DBZ's attempt at humor a "
rolleye.gif
" and made the observation that Off-Topic is often preoccupied with the minutiae of gay america.

Also, by your logic, everything is fair game right? I can make fun of Jews, minorities, gays, Republicans, the french, and anyone else in my sights and call it "equality"? I'll have some of whatever you're smoking, please.

Yes, i know that OT is often preoccupied with putting down gays, but you cannot add all that is said and then jump on someone for stuff other people have said... You know i have been into other threads defending gays against the "religious morality" idiots... or maybe you don't remember it, in which case i recommend a search, but you cannot jump on someone just because of what has been said before...

I am a swede, i can make fun of anyone, we are equal here so they will just make a comeback and it's all good... Maybe we are just a tad bit more tolerant than you mighty ones?

Just because you are not intelligent enough to know what i mean does not mean that i use drugs, if you had a clue about who i am, you would know that i am not using anything...

Jumping on people to get your message through will not help either... try to argument instead of throwing your personal insults around...

Geez, look what I started.

DBZ, you have to admit that "packing fudge" is a pretty lame, middle-school level attempt at humor.

Back to the subject, I don't have a problem with these folks. They're breaking down sterotypes from several directions at once. The only thing I'm a little leary of is this:
About eight years ago, the Philadelphian was leaving a gay bar when four drunk thugs leapt off a stoop to follow him, hurling anti-gay epithets.
With a wave of his concealed handgun, the four fled, and the potential attack was averted, he said.
Admittedly, this says almost nothing, but if he really did pull out his gun in response to some colorful language, I'd have a hard time agreeing with that.

What if he was black and four drunk rednecks leapt off a stoop to follow him, hurling racial slurs?

Yes, because as soon as you make exceptions this is no longer fair on any other group that you continue to make fun of.

e.g., Why should I accept you making jokes about the English, when you will not make any jokes about the Irish?

If you did this, then your attempt to protect the Irish actually discriminates against the English. If you made jokes about all races/religions and creeds then the above model would no longer fit, hence equality.

Taste is another issue all together and is subjective.
Okay, name-calling aside, I disagree. There's a difference between making fun of, say, the french vs. making fun of homosexuals/jews/minorities. My reasoning is that making derisive jokes about such groups and calling it "okay" is often the first step on a slippery slope. Think about your childhood and what kind of epithets and jokes got tossed around and then look at the views of the average adult person with regard to these same groups. Pretty similar, aren't they? I'm not saying that making a gay joke will absolutely precipitate a hate crime by those on the receiving end of the joke, but it's all part of the same spectrum and fuels the fire of bad feelings between two groups in however small a manner. I mean, you're talking about a group that are being actively discriminated against (and occasionally tied to a fence post and pistol-whipped to death) on a daily basis based on a lifestyle choice that has almost zero bearing on the average person. Their lives are hard enough without being the subject of mean-spirited "humor" as well.

I don't have to admit anything, but then sometimes humour goes low, and sometimes I'm the one crouching...

No difference. I would pull my gun if I felt threatened, not if I had my feelings hurt. Like I said, the article doesn't go into any detail at all, so who knows what happened? Just a minor concern.

Actually, you are wrong, the insult agains a frenchmen can hurt him just as much as an insult to a homosexual can...

The problem is, who can you insult? and why would you?

Actually their lifes are made harder by you "don't talk about them, don't joke about them, don't stare at them" types...

There is a difference between gaybashings and saying fudgepacking...

I don't recall anyone hopping a Concorde and beating the crap out of a french person recently. The two situations are a tad different.

The problem is, who can you insult? and why would you?

Actually, I'm a "they're human beings, end of story" type. Kindly explain how this kind of view is detrimental to gays.

There is a difference between gaybashings and saying fudgepacking...
Yes, there is, but as I pointed out in my last post they're two ends of the same spectrum.
