Pink Floyd

Beleive it or not until last year I never listened to an entire Pink Floyd record. I heard a few songs on the radio here and there but that was about the extent of it. Late last year my neighbor gave me a copy of Meddle and when I finally got around to listening to it I was really impressed. Yesterday I went to Best Buy and picked up a copy of Dark side of the moon, all I can say is that I now understand all the hype behind this group. So naturally I'm curious about their other music, I noticed on allmusic.com that there first album is The piper at the gates of dawn. Can anyone tell me what that album is like? Also whats your thoughts on the rest of Pink Floyds material?

Pink Floyd Rocks. do a search for pink floyd there was a huge thread about a week ago. You should watch the move "The Wall". I would recommend any Pink Floyd album. Some are better than others. Welcome my son, welcome...

Pink Floyds musical style changed considerable over there career. If you like The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, you may find their old stuff not as appealing. 'Wish you Were Here' is a must.

Plus I didn't like Final Cut that much either. I still have an original vinyl 'The Wall' 🙂

My CD had the lyrics too, but the song name was "What Shall We Do Now?"

yeah something like that. you must have the original issue with the black top.

I would recommend the following albums first:
The Wall
Wish You Were Here
Animals

The Piper At The Gates of Dawn is pretty cool too. It was mostly written by Syd Barrett, and has some good tunes. It isn't a main theme like in DSOTM or The Wall, but the songs different.

More, and Obscured by Clouds are very underrated and have some great songs. They are not as popular, but the songs Green is the Colour, The Nile Song, and Cymbaline are great from More. Free Four, Wot's...Uh the Deal, Stay, and Gold It's in The are great songs from OBC.

Atom Heart Mother is very good and very underrated. The title song is rather long, but it is worth it. This album only has a few song, even though they are good, you should get this album later.

The Division Bell is my favorite album from the post Roger Waters era (ie after The Final Cut.) I would recommend this album before A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Some Pink Floyd fans don't like this album because Roger isn't in it, but I think it is great. If you listen to PULSE, you will get a sence of what this album sounds like.

GRRRR... I really really really want that cover. When did he get it?

Animals is a great disc. Turn out the lights and just listen to album. The music is really creepy and so full sounding. Some really good songs on there. I think it's the best PF album, followed by DSOTM and The Wall.

Also, I really like Radio K.A.O.S. and the story it presents. It's a Roger Waters solo release, but it follows the idea of themed records with serveral movements to tell the story.

I got mine in '95 or '96 and I think they only released so many. I could be wrong, however. 🙂

yeah this was a few years ago.

Pink Floyd is awesome. I love all their albums.

When I was a little kid and I watched The Wall is scared the bejeezus out of me. Expecially the part with the kids and the grinder, and the cartoons where an innocent little thing would turn into a monster. It freaked me out.😀
