Hey how would I ping my brother computer from my place? Im on comcast service. He lives at my dad house, they have sbc dsl and they are using a sbc dsl modem router. I have both there ip address to the dsl modem router and my brother computer IP address.

You probably don't, chances are his DSL router is doing NAT which means his IP is non-routeable. You can ping the routers IP address, as long as Comcast and SBC both allow it.

Install Hamachi on both of your computers. It's a free peer-to-peer VPN "client". It avoids having to deal with any port forwarding. Very very cool program. Hamachi will give you both an additional network interfaces with 5.x.x.x addresses, which you can use to ping each other and treat each other as if you're on a local LAN.
