How do you increse your ping?

Why is my ping between 1000ms and 1500 ms for every server I ping?

You mean lower your ping?

Theres not much you can do about it. The part of the network under your control probably accounts for less than 10ms of that time.

When I am running on my cable modem the ping is still 1000ms to 1400ms, Why is it so high?

Because the part of the network between your cable modem and the server has high latency.

Try pinging google.com or some other big websites to see if you get lower pings for them.

In case you didn't realize it Dofuss3000, in Windows you can run > cmd to open a command prompt window (or "dos box" for us geezers) and type "ping <sitename>" to see the ping to a random site, for example:

ping www.dell.com

Some sites ignore pings.

I pinged google.com with three sets of four pings, I got 810ms, 1053ms, 989ms.

I can ping google.com in about 40ms.

Your connection just has high latencies. Nothing you can really do about it.

Are your pings always this high? Maybe there is something wrong with your ISPs equipment. Try calling them up and complaining.

Or if you are using a router. Plug directly into your modem to eliminate the router from the equation.

Unless he's using peer to peer applications a router isn't going to add that kind of delay. If OP is using P2P then that is the source of the problem.

But removing any and all home networking equipment and going directly to the modem will remove any doubt. At this point then he can call his provider and complain.
