ping weirdness

I was doing some latency testing with my server, and i noticed some strange behaviour

when i ping with a packet size of 1400, i consistently see a ping time of 200ms
when i ping with a packetsize >2700, i consistently see a ping time of 10ms
when i ping with the default packetsize (32), it shows 10ms, except when i'm running the 2700-byte ping at the same time - then it shows <10ms

is there some simple reason why this happens?
