I tried this:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316414

Zonealarm was acting funny with multiple copies running. My brother deleted it's Zone Alarm directory (not uninstalled). I'm still getting the ping error. Advice? Could it be hidden in the registry? I tried to find a program called "kill-all" or something.

All I'm trying to do is reach google.

Maybe you can reinstall Zonealarm, then Uninstall it the right way.
Why would he have multiple copies of Zonealarm running?

Try what Greg says. Install Zonealaram, the uninstall it right. Make sure it has been uninstalled from services and is not in the process list. NMake sure McAfee or Norton firewalls are not running too. If you are still having poblems. Unbind TCP/IP from your NIC, then rebind it and see if that fixes it. good luck.
