93 is good, depending on what you use to connect to the net. i say anything under 150 is pretty good, and under 120 for online gaming. just my preference though

I'd have to say that a ping of 93 is really good. I assume you are using cable or DSL? On my 56K modem, I normally get about 400-600 milliseconds. It is not great, but it is decent for normal web browsing.

I'm hooked to Roadrunner cable. It's pretty fast but bogs down when alot of people are online.
Can't complain, I know what the modem days were like.
I waited 2 years to get cable since I signed up in my area

I ran the test at the ASDL sight, don't know what online games get but their pretty fast.

93 is decent. Not great as far as cable goes, but still pretty good. I personally have 150, but that is on 56K:Q Sega.Net is the best ISP out there....

It also depends where the server you're connecting to is. If it's next door you can get pretty good ping times, even with a 56K modem. Of course 56K modems usually suck.

BFG10K is correct.. the ping time varies depends on where you connect to. 93ms generally speaking is very good for gaming already. But it varies from server to server (and your ISP as well), and of course, how far away from you and the server you are connecting.

The real trick to low pings is:
1) To be as few hops as possible from your backbone (you have no control over this)
2) To find a server on your backbone or only a hop or two away from it (you have control over this)

So, while I'm in Raleigh, NC, I play on server in Wilmington NC (RR) and have 50-70 ping, or random servers in PA, NY, GA, TX that are just one hop off of the RR backbone and get pings of 60-90.

"Ping" is the amount of time, measured in milliseconds(ms) (1ms = 0.001 seconds), that it takes a signal on your computer to reach another computer and that computer to reply back. Using this definition, it's clear that lower is better.

A ping of 93ms is pretty good for online gaming. Anything under 125ms is probably pretty good overall. Anything over ~200ms starts (1/5 of a second) starts to noticeably degrade gameplay. Anything under ~50ms is pretty much unnoticeable.

I typically see pings of approx. 50-100ms on my @Home connection.

I get 150ms pings in game with my @home cable. i get average 50ms pings to my gateway, so i'll never ever see 50ms pings in games. but does anybody know any good tricks/hacks to get pings down. been messing with stuffs like TTL and RWIN, no effect.

I used to get 30-50ms pings on Rogers@Home in Toronto (hometown CS servers). Now with my Bell Sympatico HSE, I get 70-100ms pings (also in Toronto).
