My router shows that I am receiving "ping of death" from several IP addresses.
Apparently, there is no affect on my computer but I am not sure.

So wtf is "ping of death" and what is it supposed to do?
Anything I should worry about?

I think it was just a really big, mal-formed ping that caused boxes to BSOD or panic, you'd have to be running some really old OS for it to have any effect.

IIRC it was a problem w either NT4 SP1 or the OOTB version. Packets of a certain size would bring the box down. There's still a problem going w XP/2K where you can bring them down w a malformed SMB packet.

There's always a new problem with Windows that lets you bring it down remotely, it's just a matter of time before someone finds it and writes an exploit for it =)

IIRC The Ping of Death affected almost every sytem with TCP/IP though, atleast in one way or another.

You prolly won't notice any effect on your computer - it will just drop the packets.

If your router is catching it, then there is nothing to worry about unless it is happening frequently because the router protected you. If it is becoming a nuisance, you may wish to send an email to the administrator of the other IP address.
