Ping jumps when someone is using the internet

I had an older router and the connection was breaking sometimes, so i requested my internet provider to change it, now have a newever one called ZXHN H108N V2.5. Since I have changed it, every time i try to play a game, when im not using anything on the internet the ping is okay 30-50, if someone turns a youtube video in the house the ping is 100-200, which makes it unplayable. I didnt had this problems before i changed the router, and i still have the same internet, only the router is changed. I guess I have to set up something in the router settings ?

Are you using wired connections all the way, or are both of you on wifi? The access point on it has only 2.4ghz. If you have someone hitting it with an older 802.11G connection it will be forced to scale down the connection speed of everything on the wifi network.

You can opt to put the ADSL modem in bridge mode and buy your own dualband router (plugged into one of the ethernet ports) to help separate the baddies from your sweet sweet 802.11n 🙂
