Ping BAD in servers.

I have a motorola surfboard 5100 (30mbps+ modem), and a belkin 54mbps router.
My friends ping about 5-25 in a NYC server we just bought. We all live in Virginia. I however, ping anywhere from 40 - 60.

The bandwidth the company uses is 100% pure internap, and they've tried rerouting me, and they found the best solution, but they refuse to do it as it will result in less than 5ms ping drop.

My ISP is Cox, as is a friend who lives about 2-3 miles from me. He pings 20, I ping 60. Great!

Anyone know what this could be? I'm wired, and he's on wireless. I DL faster, he pings better. No ports needed to open. Do I need a new router? Or am I just in a bad location? Anything I can do in the router? Or in the modem?

Why is that?

Because my friends ping 5-20 and me 40-60?

Anyone know any XP tweaks or server tweaks I could try?

It may be that your friend is on a different cable node and it has less congestion on it than your node. If that is the case there is not much you can do about it. You could try some tweaks but I am not sure how much they would help. For tweaks, check out www.dslreports.com.

don't bother, those differences in ping are negligible. especially if you are gaming, which is what i am presume you are doing with your server.
