I've been googling and all I can find is nonsense from 02-03 about 911. I'm just wondering whether pilots can or can't have guns. are they required, or not?
Thanks

PLEASE stop posting your opinion as fact. You are WRONG. Pilots can carry weapons on the plane if they go through a federal course and become certified. My best friend is a pilot for Southwest and carries a concealed pistol on EVERY flight he is on.

Not to be a party pooper, but that doesn't sound like an opinion, just wrong information. I don't think he was trying to force his beliefs onto the OP.

Either way his answer comes off as a statement of fact yet it is incorrect. People need to learn to keep their mouths shut unless they actually know what they are talking about. Misinformation is rampant on ATOT.

Yes they can, under the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program but the program is strictly voluntary.

Correct. When I was at FLETC (federal police academy) in New Mexico they were just starting this program, and thats where all of the pilots went for their training. I ran into one of them on the way to the chow hall and we got to talking. He was complaining about how the pilots had to pay to go through the program, and how they had to pay for food on campus, and how he thought I was lucky that I was being paid to be there. I wanted to smack him and remind him that he was making a 6 figure salary while I was being paid 33k a year.....he was a really nice guy though.

the vast majority of pilots do not make 6 figures
You don't start making six figures until you have seniority. Like if you're a captain.Originally posted by: JD50

Really? I was under the impression that most pilots made some pretty good money. Either way, I'm sure they make much more than a GS-7 step 2 did in 2003.
Edit - I'm talking about major airline pilots, not the guys that fly puddle jumpers from Roswell to Albequerque
