PIIIE and SBLive! BSOD. How to fix?

I read of a definite SBLive! driver problem that gives you the black or blue screen o' death with PIIIE's. If you can't boot into Windows, how can you address this problem? Thanks for your reply!

You just have to install the newest sound blaster live drivers from creative. If you cant get into windows, boot into safe mode (F8 at Starting Windows 98) and remove the old drivers from the device manager, reboot and install the new ones.

Had the same problem, virtually replaced everything in my system, and then (8 hours later) I found out that it actually was the drivers that caused this problem. D*mn!
Anyway, I downloaded the newest drivers (may '00 I believe), and since then everything runs a-okay.
Still can't believe however that a big company like creative is capable of supplying such crappy drivers! With a RETAIL product nontheless!

I just went thru this same problem myself not 2 hrs ago. The file
you need to fix your problem is "sblw9xup.exe" @5.42 megs.
I already had liveware 3.0 installed (dont know if there is more
than one build of it). I didn't uninstall anything, I just
executed the new file,(only took a few secs)and rebooted. Boom !
problem solved.

I'm sorry, but there are no files are available for Sound Blaster Live! under Windows 98. Please return to
the download page and select a different product and/or operating system.

That´s what u get when you want new drivers....hmmm
I´m looking for the exe now directly, but frankly, that Terratec DMX
card is looking pretty cool....(if you disable the startup, that is)

Must be a conflict with your motherboard and the drivers? I have used SB Live on 3 Mobos with PIII 700E and never had this problem..BE6 II, BX Master, and Aopen AX6BC Pro Gold..

actually it was when intel changed the p3 core that caused it,in nov99 creative released the new drivers
my only gripe with this card is if it is supposed to use less cpu then why the hell does it use up so much resources and when you put it in a computer you will notice that it will take it much longer to boot

Take longer to boot ?! Lower rescources ?!... My system boot up
time seems ok to me. Although I have just built this unit and have
not ever had any other vid card in it. Still it boots faster than my
PIII 450 with onboard matrox.
My free resources after bootup are at 94%.

mastertech01, it's a known issue. The whole world has this problem with that combo until they get that latest driver. You must be the chosen golden child. 😉

SWEET!!! I tried the new drivers and was up and running in 5 minutes. There should really be something posted about this on Creative Lab's site, since it is apparently a known issue that can be solved easily.

Thanks everyone for the info.
