PIII600e cA2 @ 840/140 or try 700e cC0?

I need some serious advice:

I have a PentiumIII 600e with cA2 stepping. Although cA2's are not known for their overclockability, this one is great, being totally stable at 800/133 with 1.65v and 840/140 with 1.75v. I'm using only a Golden Orb and good case ventilation. I would call this a "super chip", within the context of cA2 stepping cpu's. I've heard of none going over 840 without active cooling.

I am considering getting a 700e with cC0 stepping, but it would not be worth it unless I could hit at least 933/133, because the loss of fsb speed in return for processor speed is a poor trade-off.

My question is, are people generally having good experiences with the 700e cC0 cpu's with only air cooling? Is it worth the risk to make this upgrade when my current chip is very overclockable already? Let me know what you think.

(And please, no AMD suggestions...I'm not ready to deal with the active cooling required to properly overclock a T-Bird).

Most Cco's o/c well to at least 933 with normal heatsink units. But there is a chance you will get one that won't o/c much at all. Or You can also visit the for sale forum where a people like Bonkers and Compuwiz sell pre-tested 700e Cco's often.

But if your already o/c to 840, I don't think upgrading to get only another 100mhz is a wise investment of your money. A 100mhz jump is not worth the purchase of a new CPU IMHO.

I agree about the money aspect, but I should have mentioned that I can pretty much break even on the deal, because I'm selling a MoBo/PC133/CPU combo to finance the purchase of the new chip (if I decide to do so).

actually every single ca2 600e i've seen has done 840. i've only used 5 though, but pretty much all of them did 800 at 1.65 and one took 1.7. one did 868 even at 1.85

It probably wouldn't hurt to try. At worst, you can sell the 700 & get most of your $$$ back. My personal 700 cCo loves 980 mhz.
