PIII vs. Thunderbird in 3d Modeling

Okay here is the question...
I want to buy a new cpu, around 1ghz. I know that the Athlon has a better FPU than the PIII. But is the performance noticeable in 3d apps such as Brcye4 or 3d Studio MAX?
 
The T-Bird is alot faster in those apps, somewhere around 20-50% faster (or maybe even more in Bryce).
 
Ohhh yeah !!! I tested one mof my renderings on my friends P3, it took 2 X the times !!! Athlon ROCKS in these kinds of things !!!! I LOVE bryce for this !!!! 🙂
