Hi,

I have this motherboard Gigabyte 6VTX laying around and it supports FC-PGA2 Tualatin with 133FSB.

Is it good for a PIII 1.26 512KB 133FSB TUALATIN ?

(I know it looks like it should, but I am very carefull with INTEL products because there is always a detail that I am missing).

What is this thing about server vs non-server processors?
(I am looking at the 512KB cache and it makes me suspicious).

Is it going to work ?

I'm pretty sure it will work. The tualatin-s PIII's add dual processor support, but they can work alone as well, and otherwise they are the same as the other tuallatin PIIIs. Of course, they have twice the cache as well, but you already knew that . . .

hope that helps,

Thanks butch84,

I needed the confirmation for extra confidence.

Can't believe I am considering to fork out $169 for "old" technology. I can probably get a new Mobo and a newer better processor (AMD?) at that price. But I am tired of reformating drives and reinstalling OSes and reinstalling Apps.

Maybe I should wait for next year when I get a new Hard Drive and do it all at once.

I'm running a Tully 1.4-S with an adapter on an Abit BX133 with no problems. The 512KB cache just doesn't seem to be an issue.

yes it should work, anything that says it supports tualatins specificly will. Just get a 1.4GHz Celeron 256k cache cpu for $66. They are great cpus, just tualatins, but 33Mhz less FSB. And those can get to 133Mhz fsb+ easy. For the money those 1.4GHz tualatins arnt worth $215, and the 1.26GHz arnt worth $170 IMHO. Good luck

A week or so ago, newegg had a 1.4 512k p3 for $150ish, in the refurb section. Long gone now...I almost bought it..but with xmas coming up...

If you're patient you might find one there.

Is the Celeron 1.2 or 1.4 comperable?

I mean, do these extra 33Mhz of FSB realy make a difference in real life or is it just in our head?

Why not get a Celeron 1.0a? It will make the 133MHz fsb easily, and will overclock to 1400MHz no problem if you have the fsb options. You will end up with a 1.4GHz Tualatin with 256K L2 cache for $41.

I agree. Unless you want to run SMP, the tuallatin PIII is really overly expensive. Sure the extra chache is nice, but its not worth 3x the cost. It only REALLY helps you in server situations anyway.
