PIII hot or not??

Hello I need some assistance with this one. What is the average running temp for a PIII 866 133 fsb. Any input is greatly appreciated. Oh I am seeing temps of 190 and 200 F. This just doesn't seem right. Okay I got off my lazy keyster and dug around intels site and found average temps should be 80C or 111.something F. going to check the heat sink contact with CPU and maybe thermal grease.

Average temps should not be 80C. That's about the chip's max temp.
If it's not locked up, you're probably getting a false reading somewhere. At 50C my P3 didn't want to play ball.

Before I replace my stock HSF with the Taisol HSF, I was getting 56 degrees C in the summer time regularly. It's a little hot, but the PIII should run stable at that temperature. Hmmm...

You better shut that thing down man, 200°F is 93°C....the upper temp limit on the P3's is 85°C!. I can't believe it's not freezing up on you. Under full load a P3 should never get hotter than 60°C. I've built many OC'd P3 systems and the hottest one I've ever seen ran about 52°C under full load.

Thanks for the input badthad, I did just that and reset the multiplier and FSB now running at 650 mhz. The reason I started this thread was because the system has become a headache. Error after error but since I under clocked the CPU things are fine again. Is it common for systems built by supposed reputable companies to come with over clocked CPU's so they can say they are selling you one thing, when really they are selling you a look alike? Hope this isn't to far off topic if it is I will accept the flames.😉
