Hi Everyone, It's been a while since I've posted here. So long in fact, there is a bunch of stuff screwed up with my old username and email addy =) So here i am, new identity.

This is a deal for those who have access to Fry's Electronics. I was at the one down here in San Diego, and came across what I thought was a misprint at first, but walked out with a great mobo/cpu combo!

They have the retail boxed PIII 800EB for $269 and the retail boxed D815EEAL mobo (ata/100 support!) for $179. However, the ad lists both items in a combo set for $299!!! I had to ask the sales rep like 3 times to make sure!

Now I noticed there's a lot of AMD fans on this board, but I want to say that this setup is perfect for me considering I dont do any gaming (however AGP slot is there for future use!) or overclocking. I have excellent experience with Intel based LAN cards. BUT i'm afraid I'll have to disable that onboard sound card and go with something more MP3 friendly, SB Live MP3 =)

Onvia had the PIII 800E and EB listed for about 215 and I picked one up using the 50 of 200 coupon that expired just a few days ago. Ended up with a pretty good deal

I can order that CPU/MB combo from Intel for $200 through their Chips N' Tips program for CPU resellers. I am still debating as to whether or not I will.

be careful of fry's when u buy their cheap oem cpus, cuz i bout my "533" and then when i put it in it was only a 400, and when i tried to run it at 533, it wouldn't run stable, fry's is risky and if u hafta return, well everybody knows how fry's is about returns

I was looking at the board today (they sell it seperately for $169, ouch!) at Fry's in Burbank.

Many of the boxes had the "it's an open box" label on it. Others had no label but had obviously been opened. Those that looked OK had plastic bands around them.

Watch out for Fry's open boxes. You never know why something was returned...

The one in Manhatten Beach on Wednesday had 2 pallets full of those motherboards in the isle, I think they had plenty that where new and not opened. This is a great deal.

I doubt the intel mobo will allow you to change multipliers and adjust the frequency manually? In that case, you won't be able to oc.

Like I said, a good price for these RETAIL BOXED units if you're not one to OC or Game. However, I just came from the comptuer show today and saw the PIII 800EB RETAIL BOXED for $199! Also saw a few OEM D815EEALs for about $140-150. just fyi...

I'm gonna boot it over to Fry's right now and get me one! Why is this not good for gaming though? I can just disable the onboard video and stick in my TNT2U can't I? Or are there other issues that I don't know about?

Nothing wrong with this board, if you know you can overclock when you buy it.

Intel boards are generally stable and good quality (820's are an exception).

We have been using a OEM version of this board with no video, LAN or sound onboard and it is very, very good.

The onboard video will disable itself when you put in an AGP card. That is a feature of the 815 chipset.

Intel boards generally let you disable the onboard LAN and sound if you want to add your own as well, but I cannot say for certain on this board.

Yes you can disable the onboard Video, sound, or LAN, It comes with a 4x AGP and 5 PCI. According to what they said at the Intel seminar i went to.

This is a well known fact, and was already established in the first person's post as well. The point is that this is one of the absolute most stable and well made boards around, and if you are not an overclocker, is probably the best i815E mobo to buy, based on quality, features, and price. Not to mention the 3 yr. warranty (for retail box version), Norton AntiVirus included, diagnostic LEDs, and though most all mobos include cables these days, these Intel boards come with FoxxConn cables which are very high quality. Also nice is the inclusion of a very short length floppy cable, sure helps on the cable clutter.

However, you did touch my other point as well, there is the AGP slot if I ever want to add my own vcard. YES, the onboard video autodisables when the card is plugged into the AGP slot.

oh well, i'm getting off topic, still a hot deal!
