A lukewarem deal for $299 + tax from Fry's BM:

*Intel Pentium III 800- 133 FSB Boxed CPU (presumably with fan & heatsink + 3 year warranty)

*Intel 815EAAL motherboard with 2D/3D Video built in (4x AGP), Creative Labs SopundBlaster 128PCI Built in, 5 PCI & 3 DIMM slots, UDMA/66, Intel 10/100 PRO V on Board LAN, Digital Video out (DVO) Header for flat Panel CRT or TV out card

Price is good through Thursday, November 2.

The lowest Pricewatch price on the CPU is $189 plus $10.95 shipping. The lowest PW price on an 815 chipset mobo is about $120 after S&H/tax, but this isn't for an Intel board with built in LAN. So I guess the deal is O.K. for those of you who don't mind buying Intel and are close to a Fry's.

(Californios: Why do you think that Fry's has 5 stores within a couple of miles of each other in the South Bay but can't get it together to open anything north of southern Fremont? I guess folks in the East Bay, S.F., Marin, etc. don't actually buy computers.)

I wish we had a Fry's. Whenever I look online at user reviews, everybody is talking about how they got it really cheap at Fry's...of course a lot of those same people are talking about how it didn't work correctly when they got it...but that's not the point! :)

fry's is pretty good... no hassle returns, and decent prices (sometimes) on good bundles.

At Fry's, just be sure to open up the box in the parking lot to confirm the contents. I've personally found returned items that did not match the shrinkwrapped box...and no "this was a returned item" sticker on the outside.

Believe it or not, it happens.
