pIII 733 rc5?

while I am testing this dell dnet is only getting 91% of the cpu. Idle is taking 6%+ and msgrv32.exe is taking 1%+. What can I do to stop the idle from using so much? Or how do I see what is using it? I only have this thing for another day or 2 and what to get as much out of it as possible 😉

Thx

Hey danzigrules,

If your machine is getting 1.45mkeys then it is doing about what would be expected of a PIII-550. If the FSB is by chance set to 100 MHz rather than 133, then that would explain the problem.

Just a thought...

Good luck with it!

ok now what do you all think about this?
this dell is brand new pIII 733, the bios says running @ 133 fsb, but on the ram it is pc100.

Think that's a rip off?
running sandra now

Thx

<edit> says that it is running at 133, but if that's the case then why is dnet still so slow?

Run msconfig and see what is being loaded on startup. Maybe something is being loaded that is just eating up cycles.

If you bought a pc that the processor runs @ 133 fsb, wouldn't you expect the ram to be rated at the same fsb? I know that some ram overclocks, but don't ya all think that this pc should come with pc133 ram? And is it possible that this could be causing the lockups on the pcs?

Thx
<edit> btw I now have 2 of the 3 here at home. crunching slowly but surely😉

I would assume your mothernoard is a D815EEA from intel....
this motherboard will run the proccessor at 133 FSb if it is so...and the memory at 100mhz if it's pc-100....

I've put a few of this motherboard with p3-800's and both pc133 and pc100 memory.......

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo...................

Ya, somethings is definitely wrong. My P3-733 got 2.40 kkeys/sec. Why don't you try a clean install if you got the time and can backup data?

Uhm, I'll agree something is wrong with a PIII 733 that gets that low a rate... but one thing makes me REALLY curious... how can you get 2.4 MKey/s with one Darius???

I've got two PIII 800's right here one win2k and one Klinux both get about 2.2 - 2.3 ... how are you able to beat them with a 733? Please illuminate so I can improve my rate too!

I just finished upgrading our office to Compaq P3 733s, and they are all getting 2MKeys/s or better with Win95B (don't ask :|) and nothing else running during the burn-in period. Some were actually getting up to 2.4MKeys/s too. 🙂

I think I recognize this problem; I think I have the same problem. As a matter of fact, I'm on a Dell, too, on Win98. I solved it by going into the D.Net configuration, Performance related options, and changing priority to 6.

Of course I should warn you this could make your computer appear to freeze. If it does, be very patient and switch Priority back to 1. 🙂

Good luck!

You really don't need to go all the way up to a priority of 6. The System Idle process runs at a priority of 1, sharing the cycles with the Dnet client and/or the SETI client (where it SHOULD share all of them, but apparently isn't in this case) so setting the Dnet priority to 2, or at most 3, should take care of the problem and also not cause the computer to appear to lock up.. 🙂
