Assuming everything else is constant, which is faster for "everyday office applications"?

1) PIII 600 MHz "Katmai" with 512 KB half speed (i.e. 300 MHz) cache
2) PIII 600 MHz "Coppermine" with 256 KB full speed (i.e. 600 MHz) cache

I really doubt you'll notice a difference, but if I recall correctly, the Coppermines were faster overall.

The coppermine was a tiny bit faster, and I believe uses a 133mhz FSB(could be some that are 100mhz fsb, dont' remember for sure), but for every day office applications...very unlikely to notice much of a differance at all...

yea i think the cumines had 133mhz bus. different minimal.. maybe the cumine runs cooler.

Coppermine will be a bit faster, regardless of FSB speed. The Coppermine CPUs were when they again went to on-die L2 cache.

There are 100 MHz FSB Coppermine's. But a Katami is .25nm, while the Coppermine is .18nm.

The Cumine should run cooler, and a bit faster, given the same FSB, and core clock speed. Also, the Cumine will OC better, if you're into that. :)

Actually, Pentium 3 chips who were of model B, operated at 133MHz FSB; Those who also had an E added, were Coppermines. So, there was a P3 600 'B', which was a Katmai operating at 133MHz, and there was a 600 'E' & 'EB' - the former is a Coppermine running at 100MHz and the latter is a Coppermine running at 133MHz. Conclusion: a Pentium 3 600MHz could only be one of those three: B/E/EB

CuMines are faster and cooler, which makes them far more overclockable than Katmais.

BTW, a CuMine P3-600E can be run as a P3-800EB.
