Hey all,

I just found this old comp usa PII 300mgz system that i am gonna setup for my mom (needs HD and CD Rom) i had a celeron system once but never a PII, as i was working on it, i noticed that the cpu(slot) and heat sink were VERY hot to the touch! i have also been experiencing some BSOD's (Blue Screens of Death) so i am wondering if it is the POS (Piece of Sh!t) mobo comp usa used...or is the cpu too hot?

thanx

Alot of the P2-300's were designed around .35 micron technology whereas the Slot-1 Celerons were on .25 micron and ran considerably cooler. It may seem hot but the heat from normal operations won't bother that beast.

If your motherboard BIOS will work with them, or it can be upgraded, get a they highest speed Celeron which will run on the 66 mhz FSB (I'm guessing the Celeron 766 - $40 on pricewatch). You'll need to determine what can be done on that motherboard, but it would be well worth it to drop in a faster CPU. If it is slot 1, you can get a slotket adapter to convert the Socket370 Celeron to slot one. Make sure it is a good quality Coppermine compatable slotket converter too.
