So once again the paying customer gets F'ed in the A, fantastic then. Oh and no i didnt screw up the order of the pics or anything it told me my serial key was wrong before it asked me to enter anything, a sort of pre emptive "fuck you" from EA i guess.

I would like to think theres something im missing here, but i cant find a key anywhere, not in my email not on steam, nada. Hate you so much EA. So.. Much...

So... on the right hand side of the window (on the Steam game page), there's a 'Links' section. Click CD Key.

I think it should be mandatory to apply Vaseline to your anus prior to purchasing anything from Ubisoft, EA or Activision. That way you might still be surprised but a little more comfortable.

I only bought the first DS, not DS2, off that sale. Funnily enough, that was because I have this rule of thumb - I consider anything with online activation (including Steam but especially this other bullshit) to be a rental, and the cost has to reflect that. The only game with online activation for which I have paid anywhere near full price is Starcraft 2. In this case, 2.5 euros for DS seemed reasonable for a rental, DS2 was well over five euros so no deal.

Looking forward to this "experience", lol.

I got mine from Amazon and had no issues.

I'm buying more and more from Amazon because the prices are as good or better than Steam, and key is on my amazon digital download page and I can download and install to any harddrive.

I didn't buy deadspace 2 specificly because of it's activations. Deadspace 1 was one of the few EA games I was willing to buy too; shame I couldn't get the sequal because EA has become even worse than EA.

lol, if it relates to an EA product it must be EA's fault, right?

I'd start with Valve support, lots of Steam games require manual activation.

Right click the game in steam, go to properties, there should be a CD key somewhere in there.

The same thing happened to me when I bought Doom 3 on steam.

Do i detect sarcasm? :p It is 100% EA's fault. They put the DRM in the game. Unless the DRM is steamworks then its nothing to do with valve at all and unfortunately in this case its tages or something. All valve are doing is peddling EA's garbage due to having no other choice, they could refuse to carry DRM ridden games but then they wouldn't be as strong a force in DD as they are. Nope this is entirely EA's fault. Steam games require 1 type of DRM, steamworks, anything else on top of that is a big middle finger to the paying customers.

Yup done that, no key. Looking on the steam forums seems steam have "run out of keys" and more need to be ordered from EA... lol.

So it's EA's fault Steam ran out of keys then?

Steam handles distribution. That's their fault if it isn't distributed properly.

If it isn't distributed properly, I think you're well within your moral rights to go download the cracked version of DS2 and not have to deal with any more bullshit.

Isn't that one of the purposes of Steam, so people do not have to keep up with keys and serial numbers.

Why can't valve/steam make companies like ea remove the key/serial number feature.

So if I sell you a lock but don't give you the combination for it, it's Masterlock's fault?

The sole purpose of Steam is to make money for Valve.

Bullshit. Its EA's fault for requiring a key to begin with. FYI steamworks dosent need a key. Think a little deeper before placing the blame.

Kind of. Its steamworks, valves own DRM that comes bundled with steam. Its up to the other companies to use it though and many do its just lousy companies like EA/ubisoft that tack on their own ineffective pointless DRM on top of steamworks that cause difficulties.

It would be great if valve forced other devs to use steamworks but as i said earlier some would likely refuse and pull their games off steam weakening steams position as the lead DD service.

So if I sell you a lock but don't give you the combination for it, it's Masterlock's fault?

...this has what to do with additional DRM and it being bundled with dead space 2 instead of EA just using steamworks like it should be doing?

Steam oversold on cd keys. It's happened before. They did it with prey.

Yup. It's happened a few times in the past with different games.

And yes, it's Steams fault for selling more licenses of the game than they actually had available.

Fortunately Valve is good at mending these kinds of things. Sucks you can't play the game right now OP, but if past cases are any indication, they should be working as fast as possible to get you fixed.

They can't make anyone do anything. It's EA's decision to add 3rd-party DRM to their games, regardless of where it's sold. Do you really think that if Valve asked EA "Hey guyz, remove the copy protection from your product, we don't like it and Steam is already good enough DRM ok?" that EA would just say "Oh ok sure!"?

It's either: Have the game on Steam with added DRM, or not put the game on Steam at all. Your pick.

Yes, Steam gives us super-cheap games all the time, but there are strings attached. And most big publishers don't see any reason to just remove their DRM for anyone.

Why isn't this obvious that it's a Steam issue?
Steam didn't supply you with a key.
Deal with Steam.

Amazon is better for what they have, but their selection is meh compared to Steam. Their prices are generally better though, that and being free of any Amazon DRM. Of course, theres still the publishers DRM.

Oh, and theres still a buttload of games that require Steam regardless of how you purchase them. The new Elder Scrolls being an obvious case.

same error happened to me actually. After spending half a day with EA's less than helpful customer support I decided to stop wasting my time. So you know what I did? I downloaded a copy of the game off some torrent site and played it without any issues on the first try.

fuck DRM. Seriously.
