I took the wife to Biltmore from Thursday to today for an anniversary. For those that don't know, it's a home built by one of the Vanderbilts in the late 19th century. It's very impressive in person, and the grounds around it are beautiful. I've toured a few dozen castles in my time, including Neuschwanstein, and I can honestly say this was one of the most impressive.
We stayed at the Inn, the only lodging on the estate itself. Great views, quiet and excellent service. They have a winery on the estate, and they have a reasonable selection of wines for the price.
Anyway, I won't bore you with the details. I'd recommend that you go if you haven't, and feel free to PM me if you want any tips.
The front of the house.
Another view from further back.
Same area. This shows some of the garden area, the ponds, etc.
Side view near the garden. This shows the stables on the far right.
This was our view from the Inn. It's not a great picture, but you can see Biltmore in the middle of the picture above the trees. All of this land is owned by descendants of the Vanderbilt family.
A view from inside the Inn.
Final view of Biltmore near the ponds.
